In 2022, the Tbilisi City Hall imposed a ban on street trading near the Varketili metro station and removed illegal vendor structures. At the time, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced that street vendors would be moved to designated trade zones.
Earlier this year, the Tbilisi City Municipal Assembly discussed and approved a new development plan for a shopping center located behind the Varketili metro station, a plan that had been revised several times.
The new project involves the construction of a seven-story shopping mall on a 40,000-square-meter site near the metro station, in collaboration with the company “Urbaniki.”
The Varketili Mall will be a mixed-use shopping and business complex, featuring a variety of retail stores, dining options, entertainment facilities, and recreational spaces. The design places particular emphasis on recreational areas, enhancing the uniqueness of the concept.
Located in a key area of eastern Tbilisi, the Varketili Mall will be positioned near the Varketili metro station, an important urban, commercial, and transport hub in the city.
The seven-story structure will cover 12,000 square meters, with 45,000 square meters of internal space, including 3,000 square meters dedicated to recreational areas and both open and covered parking spaces.
According to Urbanika, the building’s design aims to meet the needs of people of all ages and interests, ensuring comfort and accessibility for all visitors.
The total investment in the project is estimated at $30 million, with construction set to be completed by 2025.
