Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Irakli Nadareshvili took part in the Hospitality Investment Forum (HIF) currently underway in Tbilisi. Addressing a panel discussion held as part of the forum, he outlined to delegates the development trajectory and prospects of Georgia’s tourism industry, including the hospitality sector, as well as the projects currently being advanced to that end.
“Tourism is one of Georgia’s strategic and fastest-growing economic sectors. Today, tourism generates nearly 10% of the country’s GDP. It is a sector with exceptionally high inclusivity in terms of employment, and equally significant for the diversification of the business sector, the tourism industry encompasses thousands of micro and small enterprises alongside some of the largest international companies. The range of products and services required by the tourism industry is also remarkably broad,” said the Deputy Minister.
He went on to share record-breaking figures and details of ongoing infrastructure projects with forum participants.
“Last year, Georgia welcomed a record 7.8 million international visitors. In 2025, revenues also reached a record high, USD 4.7 billion. It is worth noting that 70% of international visitors are tourists who return to our country. Infrastructure development is equally crucial, with USD 1.2 billion invested in a new Tbilisi International Airport, set to open in 2031 and serve around 20 million passengers annually. We are substantially expanding Kutaisi International Airport, and major investments are also being made to stimulate direct flight connections. In 2025, more than 70 airlines operated from Georgian airports across more than 120 routes,” Nadareshvili noted.
The Deputy Minister also updated forum participants on the business and investment environment in Georgia.
“In terms of local business development, we are seeing sharp growth. Altogether, the state has backed close to 2,000 projects connected to the hospitality industry and other tourism-related areas,” he stated.
