New 3.5 km biathlon ski track opens in Georgia’s winter resort Bakuriani – Infrastructure Ministry

The Georgian Infrastructure Ministry announced on Friday the completion of a 3.5-kilometre biathlon and cross-country ski track at the Bakuriani winter resort, which is set to host the 2025 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in February.

According to the Ministry, the track was constructed by the Municipal Development Fund with state budget funding of ₾18.2 million ($6.3 million). The project also included the installation of lighting systems and an artificial snowmaking system supplied by an Italian company.

Additionally, the Ministry highlighted the completion of the Tbilisi Ice Arena, a newly built international-standard venue in the Georgian capital, which will also host Festival events.

The arena features a 60-by-30-metre ice rink, seating for 700 spectators, and dedicated spaces for training, choreography, medical services, makeup, and conferences. The venue is designed to accommodate hockey, figure skating, and curling competitions.

The Ministry emphasized that hosting the Festival, along with the newly developed infrastructure, will enhance the country’s international recognition, boost tourism, and promote the growth of winter sports.
