Passenger traffic at Georgian airports rises by 16% in January 2026, flights increase by 16.17%, and cargo volumes surge by 38.75%

The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reports that passenger traffic at the country’s airports rose by 16% in January 2026. During the same period, 2,873 flights were carried out, marking a 16.17% increase compared to January of the previous year. The ministry also notes a sharp rise in cargo operations, which grew by more than 38% compared to January 2025.

In total, Georgian airports served 613,933 passengers in the first month of 2026. Of these, Tbilisi International Airport handled 430,034 travellers, Kutaisi International Airport 138,028, and Batumi International Airport 44,894.

Cargo volumes reached 3,147.16 tonnes in January 2026, reflecting a 38.75% year-on-year increase. The use of Georgian airspace also grew by 9.56% compared to the same period last year, with a total of 24,387 flights — including takeoffs, landings, and overflights — recorded during the month.

The ministry also emphasized that 2025 was a record year for the country’s aviation sector. Georgian airports served 8,494,640 passengers, the highest figure ever recorded. Flight activity also reached a new peak, with 38,218 flights, up 17.5% from 2024. Air cargo volumes hit another record at 38,578.379 tonnes, representing a 50% increase year on year, according to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
