Deputy Economy Minister: Georgia records historic $826 million in tourism revenue in three months

“This year, we witnessed a historic peak in international tourist visits from January to March,” said Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.

“The winter tourist season in Georgia concluded successfully. According to first-quarter data, over 1.3 million international travellers visited Georgia, with nearly 1 million tourists—up 2.2 per cent year-on-year,” Kvrivishvili explained.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the significance of the increase in tourism revenue, which reached a record $826 million in the first quarter, reflecting proportional growth alongside the rise in tourist numbers.

In terms of revenue dynamics, tourist earnings for the first quarter of this year surpassed those of the same period in 2019 by 42.8 per cent and exceeded 2024 figures by 2.3 per cent.

Notably, there was an increase in tourists from EU countries, particularly from the Netherlands, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Greece, as well as from Israel, India, China, and Gulf nations.

“The Georgian government continues to implement active marketing campaigns in key target markets to enhance awareness of our country and promote Georgia’s tourism potential,” Kvrivishvili noted.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister indicated ongoing efforts to introduce new international airlines to Georgia. Currently, 60 airlines provide direct flights from all three international airports in the country.

“The addition of new carriers, such as British Airways, EasyJet, and Edelweiss, is boosting tourist inflows from new markets and strengthening our strategy to diversify and attract more high-spending tourists. The developments in aviation and tourism give us great optimism for the remainder of this year, and we are confident that both sectors will achieve new milestones by the end of 2025,” concluded the Deputy Minister.
