Georgia is preparing to host the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) marking a significant milestone in the nation’s sporting history. The Flame of Peace for Bakuriani 2025 was brought to Tbilisi on Sunday, where it was officially handed over to Olympic champion Lasha Bekauri, symbolizing the countdown to the event.
The Flame of Peace was initially lit in Rome, Italy, by Georgian athletes Anastasia Mirianashvili and Nikoloz Egadze, alongside Mamuka Khabareli, the president of the Bakuriani 2025 Organising Committee. This event is particularly meaningful, as it will be Georgia’s first time hosting the Winter EYOF, making it only the sixth country in Europe to have hosted both the Summer and Winter European Youth Olympic Festivals.
Set to take place from February 9 to 16, 2025, the Winter EYOF in Bakuriani will bring together 1,000 young athletes from across Europe, competing in eight different winter sports. With an expected 2,000 visitors, the event is anticipated to have a lasting impact on Georgia’s winter tourism and the development of its sports sector.
Bakuriani 2025 offers a unique opportunity for Georgia to showcase its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty while elevating the country’s presence in the global sporting community. The festival is poised to leave a lasting legacy for winter sports in the region.
