The Georgian National Tourism Administration announced that 2024 marked a record year for tourism, with 5,091,732 international visitors, reflecting a 9% increase over 2023 and a 0.2% rise compared to pre-pandemic 2019.
In total, Georgia attracted 7,368,149 international travelers across all categories in 2024, an increase of 4.2% from the previous year, recovering 78.7% of the visitor numbers seen in 2019.
The surge in tourism was especially notable in the last quarter of 2024. Between October and December, international tourist arrivals reached 1,098,890, up 8.4% compared to the same months in 2023, and 0.8% higher than in 2019.
During this period, Georgia saw 1,573,488 international visitors, marking a 4.5% increase from 2023 and 74.2% of 2019’s figures.
Countries contributing significantly to the increase in visitors included:
- Turkey: 1,336,834 visits
- Israel: 310,982 visits
- Kazakhstan: 178,930 visits
- India: 124,335 visits
- China: 88,583 visits
- Saudi Arabia: 88,298 visits
- Uzbekistan: 64,259 visits
- United States: 51,728 visits
- France: 28,302 visits
- Greece: 27,557 visits
- Kuwait: 27,277 visits
- Latvia: 22,297 visits
- United Arab Emirates: 14,889 visits
Mariam Kvrivishvili, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy, said that the country’s domestic aviation and tourism sectors saw “significant growth” in 2024, with passenger traffic at Georgian airports exceeding 7.4 million—a 24% increase from the previous year. The number of flights also grew by 25% throughout 2024.
Kvrivishvili highlighted that successful negotiations with ten airlines had resulted in 13 new direct routes, leading to the entry of Austria Airlines, Transavia, and Air China into Georgia’s aviation market.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Deputy Minister announced that British Airways, easyJet, and Edelweiss would begin direct flights from London, Milan, Geneva, and Zurich to Georgia.
