Google Street View Launches in Georgia: 360-Degree Images to Boost Tourism and Navigation

Google Street View is officially coming to Georgia, made possible by a new collaboration between Google, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and the Innovation and Technology Agency. Starting in March 2025, the year-long project will involve capturing 360-degree panoramic imagery across 24 cities nationwide.

To achieve this, Google’s specially equipped vehicles will cover approximately 15,000 kilometers of Georgian roads, mapping major urban areas including Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Akhaltsikhe, Mtskheta, Telavi, Zugdidi, Gori, Ozurgeti, Mestia, and others. The focus will primarily be on main roads and highways, offering detailed visual access to public spaces.

The collected imagery is expected to go live on Google Maps in 2026. This new feature will significantly improve digital navigation across Georgia and is poised to become a vital asset for the country’s expanding tourism sector. With Street View, international travelers will be able to explore Georgian cities virtually, helping them plan their visits and gain insight into destinations beforehand.

Google has made it clear that only public areas or private spaces with explicit consent will be included in the imagery. Additionally, users will be able to report or request the blurring of any images they deem sensitive—such as their home, vehicle, or themselves—ensuring strong privacy and safety protections.

The introduction of Google Street View in Georgia represents a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation, opening a new window to share its cultural and natural beauty with the world.
