The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has completed the construction of a world-class ice arena in Tbilisi.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Tbilisi Ice Arena is set to host the 2025 European Youth Winter Olympics as early as February.
This sophisticated facility features a 60-by-30-meter ice rink and can accommodate up to 700 spectators. It includes training and choreography rooms, rest areas, medical facilities, makeup rooms, conference rooms, locker rooms, and restrooms. Additionally, there is a café with a panoramic view of the rink and ample parking space.
Equipped with a state-of-the-art cooling system that meets international standards, the arena ensures optimal temperature control for the ice surface while regulating humidity and heating in the spectator area. The rink includes two scoreboards and a comprehensive lighting system. It is fully accessible for individuals with disabilities.
The ice arena will support various sports, including hockey, figure skating, and curling.
It is also outfitted with two ice resurfacing and polishing machines. Thanks to specialized insulated flooring, the rink can host summer sports and other events—such as basketball, mini football, and handball—without compromising the ice.
The installation and equipping of the ice arena with the latest technology meeting international standards were executed by a Czech company. Design and construction on the ice venue began in December 2023, with a funding of GEL 29.2 million allocated from the state budget.
Georgia is set to host the 2025 European Youth Winter Festival in February, taking place in Tbilisi, Bakuriani, and Batumi. In anticipation of the festival, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has also completed the construction of a biathlon field and a 3.5 km ski racing track in Bakuriani,” the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure reports.
The opening of the ice rink was honoured by the presence of Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, and various government officials.
