Unemployment rate hits historic lows, says Deputy Economy Minister

Vakhtang Tsintsadze, Deputy Minister of Economy, believes that economic growth in 2024 has had a positive impact on the labour market, as reflected in the historic minimum unemployment rate of 13.9%. The number of employed individuals reached a record high, with an increase of 68,000 people, bringing the total to 1,402,000.

Tsintsadze highlighted Georgia’s leading economic growth, with a 9.5% rate in 2024, which fueled a rise in both employed and self-employed individuals.

“If we look at the labour market, the growth of the workforce is accompanied by an increase in employment, which indicates healthy trends in the labour market and, in general, the structural improvement of the labour market.”

The Deputy Minister expects continued high economic growth in 2025.

“We expect to maintain the speed of high economic growth in 2025. That will allow us to make the labour market healthier, increase the number of employees, reduce the unemployment rate, and also increase the pay. We expect more wealth to be produced in the country that will boost the purchasing ability of the population,” he said.
